Background  

At Humblebee, we’ve always applied a startup mindset to developing digital services for our clients - mixing Lean Startup principles, design thinking, and tech expertise. But now, we’re taking it further: we’re running a joint startup initiative together with one of our customers Volvo Construction Equipment. We were asked to do three things:  

• Bring all the design, business and tech competences needed to develop a digital service that could change the way modified construction equipment is bought.
• Ensure that the team is infused with Humblebees startup mentality.  
• Share the risk of the project.  

We did, of course, say yes to all of these.  

Challenge

Purchasing a new excavator and modifying it before it even hits the ground is not as uncommon as one might think. Machines are rebuilt for high-reach demolition, projects in tight urban areas, railway work, and more. But the process is slow, fragmented, and inefficient.

The problems:

• Construction companies struggle to find the right machines and compare options.
• Dealers spend too much time locating modification partners.  
• Machine modifiers are often unknown to the customer and miss opportunities.  

Solution  

Meet Justr—an AI-powered procurement assistant that simplifies buying specialised construction equipment.  

We realised early that Justr needs to be a business that creates value for both machine modifiers and customers as well as dealers and machine manufacturers. That is why the solution has one buyer-facing side and an admin interface. The buyer-facing side is where a construction company can describe their needs in their own words. Then Justr automatically analyses the need, matches base machines from leading manufacturers with the right modifications from specialised workshops and proposes solutions. In just a few clicks, customers can get tailored recommendations, compare options, and request a quote.

Through the admin interface the modification providers have the possibility to add and adjust the solutions they want to offer via Justr procurement assistant. and consequently, get new sales leads.
